About Us

North Sydney State Emergency Service (SES) was established in 1955 and belongs to the New South Wales SES which comprises over 230 Units in 17 Regions and 10,000 volunteers in total.

As part of the Sydney Northern Region (with 11 units in total), the North Sydney SES is a group of friendly, enthusiastic and highly trained volunteers – helping the local community to cope with emergencies. We assist the people in the municipality of North Sydney during floods, storms and other emergencies.

We work in two areas, ‘Rescue’ and ‘Operations’. ‘Rescue’ is all work that we undertake in the field when help is needed - in the lead up to and during a specific event. ‘Operations’ is everything that supports our rescue efforts and builds our rescue capabilities, e.g. Training, PR, administration, IT, logistics, etc.

Our members are highly trained in many areas.

We welcome new members at different times during the year. If you live in the area of the North Sydney Council, are at least 16 years of age, would like to contribute to the community and learn new skills - contact us. All training, equipment and uniforms are provided.
